is a hotbed of creativity and attracts
increasing numbers of designers,
architects, artists and
cultural tourists, hungry to soak up
the unique atmosphere of
this culturally diverse environment.
The Truman Brewery is urban renewal in action,
as massive industrial buildings take on new life, influenced equally by the wealth of the City
and culture of the East End.

The following examples show a broad range
of approaches to illustrating a concept.
Some are structures in the own right
and some simply express an idea, a notion,
a form or experiment through
clever use of materials.

Operation Bombshell - Nom*D exposed

SPRING/SUMMER
2 0 0 8

Operation Bombshell - Nom*D exposed.
Stripping back the layers to reveal distinct corsetry shapes, and a clever use of recycled petticoats, the Spring/Summer 08 collection combines iconic silhouettes from the 1950s with Nom*D’s androgynous edge.

Details from ordinarily hidden layers are transposed and stitched onto the surface of pretty but tough georgettes, then amplified by modesty panels to protect from over-exposure. Bodice slips are finished with suspender shaping.

Cover seaming on the softest modal fabrics further defines corsetry styling. The Collection seems fragile, overtly feminine, but things are not as they first appear. The beautifully shocking and eerily curvaceous clouds of
H–Bomb detonations in the Nevada desert offer a darker reference point.

Despite this ominous flipside, there is lightness to the way garments are designed to be worn. Many are thoughtfully tailored for layering and, in some instances, have their own layers inbuilt.

Masculine styled waistcoats and vests, bringing the feminine in line with Nom*D’s familiar androgynous aesthetic, are specifically cut to be worn together and presented in soft colour ways that give tone-on-tone variations. Focus is given to the back of garments, with double drawstrings and lacing to direct attention to the waist.

The colour palette also reflects a new lightness, with a wider colour palette this season. Reds, from poppy to tangerine, work back with nudes and foundation pinks. Blues range from dusky, slate tones through to electric cobalt. Fabrics are overprinted with loaded dice and, as always, the overall palette is anchored with black.

"What you will find here are a variety of themes in photography and photo manipulation, from the sensual to the imaginative. I specialize in emotive expression, be it self-portraiture or documenting architectural decay. My work explores what is on the inside of things."
I'm a huge fan of Marinkel's work.
I first discovered her on the etsy store
and have been following her ever since.
I'm drawn to her intense style!
